Seminar on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the EU and Korea
Experts from the EUIPO Mediation Centre, the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), and Korea’s Industrial Property Dispute Mediation Committee (IPDMC) under the Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) highlighted the growing importance of ADR mechanisms—such as mediation—as effective, accessible and business‑friendly alternatives to litigation, that help companies—particularly SMEs—resolve trade mark, design and patent disputes faster, more confidentially and at lower cost.
The activity addressed European and Korean users of the IP systems, presenting the existing alternative mechanisms for resolving IP disputes efficiently across borders in the EU and the Republic of Korea. The session included expert insights, cross-border case studies, and a live Q&A.
The seminar underscored how traditional IP litigation can be costly and time‑consuming, particularly for SMEs and companies involved in multi‑jurisdictional disputes and how coordinated ADR can support businesses in avoiding litigation, managing risks and achieving quicker and less burdensome outcomes.
