IP briefings for EU SMEs from the green and low carbon technologies’ sector expanding to Korea

On this third occasion, the EU-RoK IP Action continued collaborating with the EU Business Hub programme in supporting EU companies’ expansion into the Korean market and protecting, managing, commercialising and enforcing their IP rights across borders. It also provided support to 44 selected EU SMEs and startups of the Green and Low Carbon Technologies’ sector, providing them with the must-knows for IP protection and the specificities to consider when expanding to Korea in the green sector.

According to a study conducted in the EU in 2021,companies that own IPRs have significantly higher (up to 55% higher) revenue per employee than companies that do not. Nevertheless, less than 9% of small businesses protect their IP. These sessions allow SMEs to understand the importance of managing their IP assets and the risks of non-protection. The SMEs receive information about how to identify their IP strategy, the mechanisms of protection in EU and Korea, good practices when making use of their IPRs. This includes licensing and monitoring, relevant regulatory schemes and case studies of the sector.
