Sakpatenti presents IP case-law compilation to Georgian High School of Justice

Drafted under activity 13 of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) 2022 annual work plan, the intellectual property (IP) case-law compilation will be presented at the Georgian High School of Justice on 3 May 2023.

The case-law compilation was developed over recent months thanks to the joint efforts of the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s Legal Department and Boards of Appeal, together with legal experts from the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia — Sakpatenti.

Cases on trade mark, design, copyright and enforcement were initially selected in the interest of Georgian legislative practice. Decisions were chosen based on their normative and interpretative relevance for the IP legal systems. The cases were translated into Georgian and are now available to judges, enforcement authorities and officials from Sakpatenti. These are the main stakeholders in charge of interpreting and applying IP jurisprudence.

The compilation is an important milestone for the EUGIPP. It aims to:

  • improve the judicial system’s expertise on specific IP matters;
  • increase consistency in interpreting IP legislations;
  • harmonise judicial decisions in Georgia with EU standards.
