IP experts visit Georgian enforcement authorities

The IP enforcement experts contracted by EUGIPP under the activity related to a comparative analysis between the Georgian and EU enforcement systems of intellectual property rights (IPRs) will visit the enforcement authorities of Georgia from 11 to 13 July.

The purpose of this visit is to meet bilaterally with the main IP enforcement stakeholders in Georgia and discuss the guidelines and legislative amendments drafted in the context of the comparative study.

During their first day, experts will meet with the representatives of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and will then visit the customs clearance zone in Tbilisi and the customs check point in Sadakhlo. During these visits, the experts will have a concrete overview of the procedures that Georgian customs authorities apply during inspections.

On the second day, the experts will meet and discuss pending matters with representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, followed by a visit to the Georgian IP office’s premises, where they will discuss the results of their consultations with Sakpatenti.

On the last day, a meeting with the private sector will be held to gather feedback from IP attorneys on the work carried out so far, in view of preparing a more extensive stakeholder consultation in the coming months. The visit will be finalised with a meeting and discussion with representatives of the investigative service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

The 3-day visit of EUGIPP´s IP enforcement experts will enhance the efforts made to draft the guidelines and law amendments on IPR enforcement in order to gather the broadest possible feedback from interested parties. It will help reach an agreement between parties to further approximate Georgian legislation to EU legislation on IPR enforcement.
