EUIPO-CPVO Conference on IP innovation and sustainability

In light of the 30th anniversary of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the anniversary of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), a joint EUIPO/CPVO conference was organized at the EUIPO premises and online. The conference ’30 years providing incentives for innovation – Celebrating Intellectual Property Together’ aims to support the innovation and growth of the European economy with a particular emphasis on plant variety rights.

The seminar demonstrated the EUIPO’s vocation and ability to mobilise key IP actors. In this particular case, IP experts from EU Member States, non-EU countries, associated agencies and international organisations, such as CPVO and UPOV, shared their knowledge and experience in different areas of IP. The aim was to provide participants with the tools and expertise to improve practices in their countries while fostering cooperation on IP matters between stakeholders.

Bilateral meetings to foster cooperation

On 20 September, in a series of technical meetings, each country presented the state of play of its plant variety and breeders’ rights system, including the roles and responsibilities of the respective national authorities. These bilateral exchanges provided an open and constructive dialogue to discuss operational and enforcement practices and to identify and explore areas for further cooperation under the EU4IP project.

Through this joint event, the EUIPO and the CPVO have objectives such as the exchange of information on IP and specifically on matters falling under the responsibilities of both agencies; networking opportunities between stakeholders to foster knowledge sharing and cooperation synergies.

This conference represents an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge sharing, networking and cooperation opportunities for experts from the State Agency on Intellectual Property of Moldova and the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations on plant variety rights (PVRs).
