Webinar on IP Value in Action: From Innovation to Investment

This regional workshop on IP-backed finance, taking place online on 24 November 2026, is part of CarIPI’s work under activity 11 of the second annual work plan (AWP2). In line with the EU-CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement’s emphasis on strengthening IP systems and supporting MSMEs and indigenous producers, it will examine the role of intellectual property as a strategic asset for innovation, competitiveness and sustainable growth. Building on the first CarIPI activity on this subject, the workshop will bring together regional IP offices, financial institutions and technical experts to exchange practical experiences across the IP-to-finance lifecycle and to identify the opportunities and constraints of using IP in credit assessment, risk reduction and financing decisions in the Caribbean.

Discussions will focus on strengthening IP valuation practices and on their role in facilitating access to finance, combining the EUIPO perspective, including its IP-Backed Finance Roadmap and international cooperation work, with practical experiences from the Caribbean and the views of financial and development finance institutions. Participants will consider lessons learned from existing initiatives and how they could apply in the Caribbean context, as well as priority areas for further cooperation. The workshop aims to strengthen regional capacity and identify practical considerations for integrating IP into SME financing, supporting the broader goal of unlocking investment and promoting more resilient and inclusive business growth. Practical references and resources on IP valuation and IP-backed finance shared during the session will be compiled and disseminated afterwards.
