IP awareness: focus on women and youth

For IP rights to be recognised as vital tools for economic, social and cultural development, and not merely as trade-related obligations, countries need more than strong institutional frameworks. Fostering cultural change through ongoing awareness and education is equally as important.

In this context, the project’s activities under AWP 1 addresses these needs by supporting targeted initiatives that raise IP awareness and promote a better understanding of its importance across all sectors. It also seeks to ensure that IP systems are inclusive and accessible, particularly to women, young people and indigenous communities.

Under AWP1, a young designer from the Dominican Republic working with the Larimar craft GI was selected and supported to participate in the inaugural EUIPO Young Leadership Programme (24-28 November 2025), and a video featuring her work was released across CarIPI social media channels on International Women's Day.

Under AWP2, CarIPI has participated in the UNESCO SIM Caribbean Content Creators Webinar and presented to regional creators on the topic ‘Intellectual Property Rights of Caribbean Content Creators’. The project will seek to continue working with this new strategic partner as it develops its awareness programme for young people. Furthermore, it organised the webinar 'From Podium to Profit' in line with this years World IP Day theme 'IP in Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate'.

CarIPI will further scale up this activity with the launch of the CarIPI MentHership Programme – a cohort-based initiative combining training, mentoring and peer learning to strengthen women entrepreneurs' confidence in managing IP within their enterprises.
