Hands-on IP Scan training for regional BSOs and SMEs
On 29 January 2024, CarIPI hosted a workshop for regional business support organisations (BSOs) and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to present IP Scan cases as part of the IP Scan initiative in the CARIFORUM region.
Previous work under the ‘IP Scan and IP Valuation for MSMEs’ activity has included three IP Scans in the Caribbean region. These three specific IP Scan cases involving Caribbean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be presented to demonstrate the potential of IP Scans.
The purpose of this activity was to help build-up a system of pre-diagnostic services specifically designed for SMEs and to emphasise the importance of intellectual property (IP) and the benefits it can bring to their businesses.
One of the keys to building an SME’s IP strategy is to perform IP pre-diagnostic checks. SMEs can benefit from IP experts looking at their business model, products and services, and growth plans and advising them on an IP strategy. This service can help SMEs decide which IP rights to protect, how to develop their IP portfolio if they already have registered rights, and/or how to plan their IP strategy for the future.
