The First ASEAN Design Convergence Network Meeting

ARISE+ IPR hosted the first meeting of the ASEAN Design Convergence Network in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 31 October to 1 November 2019. The meeting aimed to improve the quality of industrial design services and facilitate stakeholders’ access to information, with a long-term goal of strengthening ASEAN IP systems and contributing to a more open and vibrant business ecosystem in the region.

During the two-day meeting, the participants discussed in detail the creation of the ASEAN Design Convergence Network, as well as potential convergence projects on design practices that the network will work on in the years to come. The participants expressed strong support for the network, which they hope will increase design service quality in the region. The Locarno Classification and the interface between industrial designs and other IP rights such as copyright and trade marks were also discussed during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by senior design officials from ASEAN Member States IP offices, representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, experts from the EUIPO and Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and representatives of ARISE+ IPR.
