IPR Conference 2025 in Seoul: IP Strategies in the Age of AI
On 9 September, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) under the EU-RoK IP Action, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) jointly organised the ‘IPR Conference 2025: IP Strategies in the Age of AI’.
The event opened with addresses by Mr Wan Ki Kim, Commissioner of KIPO; Mr Philippe VAN HOOF, Chairperson of the ECCK; and by Mr Walter van Hattum, Minister Counsellor and Head of the Trade and Economic Section of the EU Delegation to Korea.
IPR Conference 2025 in Seoul: IP Strategies in the Age of AI
The EU-RoK IP Action, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK), and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) co-organised the ‘IPR Conference 2025: IP Strategies in the Age of AI’ on 9 September in Seoul. The conference brought together public and private sector representatives to discuss AI-driven IP protection strategies and EU-Korea collaboration in combating online infringements.
Seminar on Generative AI and Copyright in the EU and Korea
Gathering stakeholders from public and private sectors in the EU and Korea, including authorities, academics, representatives of the AI industry and rights holders, this seminar offered the opportunity to engage in a significant exchange on the latest developments in both the EU and Korea when facing the evolving landscape of AI-generated content and copyright.
Second EU-Korea Copyright Roundtable
Following from the First EU-Korea Copyright Roundtable held in 2024, the European Commission, the EU-RoK IP Action, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and the Korea Copyright Commission organised the Second EU-Korea Copyright Roundtable. The meeting created an in-depth discussion on copyright-related matters among the EU and Korean public and private stakeholders, on copyright exceptions and limitations for teaching and education in the EU and Korea, both from a legal perspective and sharing of experiences of both societies.
Seminar on Generative AI and Copyright in the EU and Korea
The EUIPO, in collaboration with the European Commission, hosted a seminar in Brussels on 25 June 2025, in the context of the EU-Republic of Korea (RoK) IP Action.
The seminar aimed to foster a meaningful exchange on the evolving landscape of AI-generated content and copyright, focusing on recent regulatory developments and the implications for creators in both the European Union and Korea.
Experts meeting on AI and new technologies applied to IP
As AI and digital technologies continue to evolve, they have the potential to facilitate IP protection, both for the IP Offices providing IP services and for the businesses, creators and IP professionals who are in a position to better manage their IP with the help of AI. This meeting explored what stage the IP Offices in Korea and in the EU are currently at in implementing AI in their respective offices. The meeting looked at the extent to which AI was being implemented to support the IP services these offices provide.
