Seminar on convergence of practices and related case-law

On 9 September 2020, a seminar on the implementation of European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) practices took place in Tbilisi. Following the recent alignment of Sakpatenti (the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia) with EUIPN practices, the seminar focused on real-world aspects of implementing those practices in Georgia as well as on some relevant case-law.

Integration into TMClass and HBD terms translation into Georgian

As of 13 July 2020, Georgian speaking users can search for terms in their own language on the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) Harmonised Database (HDB). The Harmonised Database contains more than 70 000 terms from which users can select the goods and services for their trade mark applications. As it is used in the EUIPO’s online trade mark registration process, picking a term from the Harmonised Database will increase the chance of acceptance of trade mark applications.

HDB in Georgian go live

As of 13th July 2020, Georgian speaking users can search for terms in their own language on the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) Harmonised Database (HDB). This is the result of a joint effort and fruitful cooperation between the EUIPO and the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia (Sakpatenti).

Georgian Ministry of Education approves pilot project on intellectual property

On 6th June, the Georgian Ministry of Education gave green light to carry out the activity “IP in Education”, intending to reach over 1000 students all across Georgia. This is the first important step towards the implementation of a pilot project which will integrate intellectual property into Georgian schools curricula.

Sakpatenti now aligned with all EUIPN practices

As of 21 May 2020, Sakpatenti is the first non-EU IP office to fully align trademark examination with IP offices of the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN). The publication of the following practice papers by Sakpatenti is the final result of the joint cooperation between the Georgian IP Office and the EUIPO:
