CARIFORUM representatives participate in the IP Case Law Conference 2022

CarIPI supported the participation of CARIFORUM representatives from the Intellectual Property Offices and judicial bodies in the IP Case Law Conference at the EUIPO premises in Alicante during 7 and 8 July 2022.

This event is organised by the Boards of Appeal of the EUIPO in cooperation with the EUIPO Academy on a biannual basis, and was held this year in hybrid format.

CarIPI IP cooperation workshop

Following the IP Case Law Conference, CarIPI held an IP Cooperation Workshop with CF stakeholders at the EUIPO premises in Alicante on 11-12 July 2022. The workshop provided an opportunity for Intellectual Property Offices to discuss specific cooperation activities carried out over the past 2 years under the CarIPI Project and to set the framework for future activities.

Meeting with JIPO - mentorship interventions

On 29 June, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) team met with the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) to discuss mentorship programme interventions with some of the identified producer groups of Jamaica (honey; castor oil), with a view to define the best programme strategy for each producer group.

Meeting with HT IP Service on the GI Model law

On 16 June, the CarIPI team met with the Service for Industrial Property of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Haiti to discuss the main features and the methodology followed to develop the GI model law, with a view to tailor the technical assistance to Haiti in developing a GI legislation. Further discussions then revolved around future interventions targeting Haitian origin-linked products under the CarIPI mentorship programme.

Haiti will use HDB

As of 13 June 2022, the Industrial Property Service of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (SPIMCI) will use and accept the list of terms from the harmonised database of goods and services (HDB) in TMclass.

Following SPIMCI’s decision to use the HDB, there are now 24 IP offices outside the EU that use and accept terms from this database.

The inclusion of SPIMCI in TMclass brings the total number of participating national and regional IP offices, including ARIPO, OAPI, WIPO and the EUIPO, to 90.
