AsiaGI is a training programme on geographical indications (GIs) that will be organised in October-December 2022 by CIRAD (Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) and REDD (Réseau Echange Developpement Durable).

Workshop on GI management and protection for post-GI registration

On 12-13 October 2022, ARISE+ IPR organised a workshop on managing and protecting geographical indications (GIs) once they have been registered. GIs are valuable tools that can be used to boost the economic development of a region, create value for local communities, support rural development, contribute to job creation, and more. Not only is it crucial to register GIs, but it is also important to efficiently manage and protect them to ensure getting the maximum benefit from the GIs, which in turn contributes to the economic growth of communities.

Promotional materials to promote local GIs in LDCs

In recent years, strong economic growth has resulted in an increase in the number of geographical indications (GIs) registered in ASEAN countries. From June to December 2022, ARISE+ IPR and ​​ASEAN intellectual property (IP) offices from LDCs will create promotional videos to highlight the benefits of geographical indication (GI) registration and protection, and to promote registered GIs in these countries. These videos will be in local languages with English subtitles in order to promote these GIs nationally and internationally.

Training on IP mediation

ARISE+ IPR organised a training session on intellectual property (IP) mediation on 29-30 June 2022, targeting IP mediators from the ASEAN IP offices. The session covered different complex IP dispute cases to sharpen the necessary skills needed for mediators. It also included hybrid techniques such as mediation-arbitration, arbitration-mediation, and more; as well as important general considerations for online mediation proceedings.

Public Awareness raising on Madrid and Hague Agreements

ARISE+ IPR, together with WIPO and the ASEAN IP offices, organised a workshop on the Madrid Protocol and Hague Agreement. The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among the business community in the ASEAN region on these two agreements and to promote the use of the systems when filing trade marks and designs abroad.

IP Seminar to promote the ASEAN IP Systems and services to local and foreign businesses and industries

ARISE+ IPR and the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) organised an online IP seminar for local and EU businesses that are doing business, or are interested in doing business, in Malaysia and the ASEAN region. The online IP seminar introduced the importance of protecting intangible assets and the tools and processes available to help businesses protect their assets in Malaysia. Via this seminar, MyIPO introduced its latest IP legislation, tools, services, and programmes for supporting businesses.
