Support to the ASEAN Network of IPR Enforcement Experts (ANIEE)

The ASEAN Network of IPR Enforcement Experts (ANIEE) is made up of representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMS) involved in IP rights enforcement. The objective is to ensure that the AMS maintain a regional action plan on IP rights enforcement in line with the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025.

ARISE+ IPR will contribute to advancing enforcement initiatives under the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025 by supporting ANIEE’s enforcement agenda. The support will include the following.

Training for the ASEAN IP Academy

On 2-4 November 2022, ARISE+ IPR hosted a training on how to deliver trade mark-related training for ASEAN IP Academy trainers. The ASEAN IP Academy was established under previous Annual Work Plans (AWPs), and has been conducting trainings at various levels. Under the current AWP, ARISE+ IPR supported the ASEAN IP Academy trainers and trade mark officials to ensure the sustainability of training on this topic and that knowledge gained will be available for future generations of trade mark examiners.

Training on Trade Mark Opposition

A trade mark opposition is a procedure that allows an entity or an individual to oppose the registration of a trade mark within a country based upon a number of different grounds, such as lack of distinctiveness, passing off, and earlier intellectual property rights (IPRs), among other grounds. ASEAN Member States currently have a number of different rules relating to trade mark oppositions. Therefore, ARISE+ IPR organised a training on trade mark opposition on 19‑20 October 2022.

Training on the ASEAN Trade Mark Common Guidelines (Substantive Examination)

Trade mark applications worldwide and within ASEAN continue to grow. Therefore, it remains of utmost importance to continue to enhance the capacity of trade mark examiners within ASEAN to keep up with this global demand for trade mark applications. The ASEAN Common Guidelines for Substantive Examination of Trade Marks serves as a good starting point within ASEAN for training and collaboration between the ASEAN IP Offices.
