ARISE+ IPR facilitates the update to the ASEAN Common Guidelines for the Substantive Examination of Trade Marks

The second edition of the ASEAN Common Guidelines for the Substantive Examination of Trade Marks was published on the ASEAN IP Portal website and on the ARISE+ IPR website. The publication of the updated guidelines marks the end of a multi-year process that began in Bangkok, Thailand, during the 8th Trademark Consultation Meeting organized by ARISE+ IPR, where discussions started on the possible updates for the Common Guidelines.

Training on the revised ASEAN Trade Mark Guidelines for TM officials

To support the ASEAN Member States’ effort in improving the quality of the examination of trade marks in the region, the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Substantive Examination of Trade Marks were adopted in 2015 in the framework of ECAP III Phase II. ARISE+ IPR carries on with the initiative through several means, including the support to the updating of the common Guidelines and the organisation of an online training on the revised version published in April 2020.

ARISE+ IPR supports the DIP Thailand Photo Contest and encourages creators to adopt greener alternatives

This year ARISE+ IPR has joined the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand in the organization of the DIP Photo Contest on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day. On 26 April 2020, the contest was announced on DIP and ARISE+ IPR social media channels, calling for individuals who are interested in the contest to submit a photo with accompanying description that falls under the theme defined by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), namely ‘Innovate for a Green Future’.

Local artisans’ culture and wisdom celebrated at the ARISE+ IPR training in Cambodia and Lao PDR

Local artists, designers, and artisans have a great deal of potential in preserving their culture and wisdom, empowering their communities and boosting their industries' economy using intellectual property. In light of this aspect, the EU-funded project ARISE+ IPR produces a set of promotional videos addressing the designers in rural areas, with the primary goals to help raise their awareness of intellectual property rights and highlight the economic and cultural values of their work.

Roundtable discussion for ASEAN judges and prosecutors

In 2021, ARISE+ IPR organised a series of online roundtable discussions for ASEAN judges and prosecutors on 26 January (Malaysia), 2 February (Thailand) and 30 March (Cambodia and Lao PDR). The roundtable discussions covered the enforcement of IP rights in the judicial environment, IPR protection and enforcement in ASEAN Member States, and IPR protection from the perspective of Civil and Criminal Law. The roundtable discussions also included the sharing of EU decisions on IPR cases.

Follow-up Trainings for Examiners on Madrid Protocol Operations and Trade Mark Examination

The ARISE+ IPR team supported the Follow-up Training on Madrid Protocol Operations and Trade Mark Examination for examiners from the IP Offices respectively of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia and Lao PDR on 8 and 10 December 2020. The follow-up training served as subsequent sessions of the one-week attachment training provided to these examiners by ARISE+ IPR and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in Manila, the Philippines during 5-9 August 2019.
