Sakpatenti moving closer to European IP practices

As of March 2020, the Georgian Intellectual Property Center (Sakpatenti) is starting a legislative reform process on several IP-related subjects, such as trade marks, designs, copyrights and enforcement of IP rights. This process will contribute to assess the status of IP rights protection in Georgia with the purpose to converge towards European standards (acquis communautaire)

Thanks to the support of the EUGIPP (EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project), Sakpatenti is performing a series of gap analysis followed by a public consultation, which will transparently involve stakeholders at all levels. The goal is to receive feedbacks to formulate a set of law proposals and legislative amendments to be presented to the Georgian government during the next coming months.

The EUGIPP aims to provide adequate and effective protection and enforcement of IP rights in Georgia. The official start date of the project is 1 January 2020 and will run for three years.
