EUGIPP’s annual work plan approved

On 17 January, the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project’s steering committee approved its 2022 annual work plan.

The project’s third annual work plan is the result and continuation of the activities carried out in 2021. It takes into account additional consultations with relevant stakeholders. The 2022 activities are divided into three expected results.

Result 1: to strengthen IP institutions, networks and related staff for an efficient IPR system in Georgia, the work plan includes developing examination guidelines on trade marks as well as a specialised course on trade mark guidelines. Another important activity is developing IP Scan services and IP pre-diagnostics for the benefit of SMEs. Additionally, the EUGIPP will support certification on mediation, and seminars with enforcement authorities, among others, to help align common practices with the European Union Intellectual Property Network.

Result 2: to contribute to the modernisation, transparency and fair implementation of IP policies and enforcement in Georgia, the activities will build on the foundations of previous work plans and will include a study on the economic impact of counterfeiting and piracy as well as supporting the IP enforcement network in Georgia.

Result 3: to increase awareness on the benefits of a comprehensive IPR system among opinion makers and specific segments of the general public in Georgia, the EUGIPP will continue to support events focussed on creativity and IP in Georgian schools. The project will also prepare a study on the economic benefits of IP in Georgia. Finally, this work package will set up a policy-level stakeholder event to promote the importance of IP rights.

The EUGIPP’s main beneficiary is the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti). The project officially started on 1 January 2020 and will close in June 2023.
