The EUIPO launches the Copyright Knowledge Centre at a high-level conference

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in cooperation with the European Commission, hosted a two-day high-level conference on copyright from 20-21 November 2025 at its headquarters in Alicante, Spain. The event brought together EU institutions, policymakers, national intellectual property (IP) offices, copyright experts and representatives from the cultural and creative sectors to celebrate copyright in the EU and reflect on the latest policy challenges in the field.

A key highlight of the conference was the launch of the EUIPO Copyright Knowledge Centre. Conceived as a central source of knowledge, the centre brings together tools and services to:

  • support the cultural and creative sectors in the digital age;
  • keep the general public and EU policymakers informed;
  • address emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, the EU copyright infrastructure and cultural diversity;
  • provide a platform for guidance, coordination and dialogue across technical, legal and policy perspectives.

The programme also featured cultural and artistic performances, underscoring Europe’s rich creative talent and the vital role of copyright in its protection and promotion.

In the context of the EU-funded EU4IP project, copyright experts from the Armenian Intellectual Property Office, the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova, and the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations participated in the conference. Their presence fostered exchanges with peers from across the EU, strengthened regional cooperation and supported the alignment of copyright frameworks with EU standards.

As host of pan-European copyright databases and portals – including Agorateka, the Orphan Works database and the Out-of-Commerce Works Portal – the EUIPO reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding creativity, supporting innovation and advancing Europe’s copyright system.
