AL-INVEST Verde IPR carries out its first action in Latin America

AL-INVEST Verde IPR, with the support of the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), organises the event "Intellectual Property and Bioeconomy" during the 10th edition of the Green Rio conference. The conference takes place from 1-3 September, at the Marina da Glória venue in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where themes involving bioeconomy, sustainable business, green economy and global climate change will be discussed.

Green Rio is one of Brazil’s most important platforms for international exchanges in the area of bioeconomy. Its first edition ten years ago was organised as a side-event of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). It brings together relevant stakeholders from politics, research and civil society who gather to discuss alternative solutions in favour of the bioeconomy. Participation constitutes an excellent opportunity to increase awareness on the importance of IP for the green economy.

The debut of AL-INVEST Verde IPR in Latin America will include actions that involve the dissemination of the culture of Intellectual Property (IP) and the promotion of its use in the transition to a sustainable economy. There will also be an information stand with INPI professionals to clarify any doubts the attending public might have.

Moreover, there will be a panel during the event's main programme on 2 September at 13:40, addressing intellectual property and the green economy, titled: "Intellectual Property Strategies for the Benefit of Green Technologies and Sustainable Development". Panellists include the President of INPI Brazil, Cláudio Vilar Furtado, and AL-INVEST Verde IPR expert on geographical indications (GIs), Luis Fernando Samper from Colombia.

Thenceforth there will be a Q&A session with the panellists on intellectual property and bioeconomy at the information booth shared between AL-INVEST Verde IPR and INPI Brazil, followed by a meeting of the AL-INVEST Verde IPR network for special invitees with a keynote speech by the Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation in Brazil, Stefan Agne.
