Webinar on IP Basics in the EU - Protecting your investments
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), within the framework of the EU–Japan Intellectual Property Action (EU–Japan IPA), together with the European Patent Office (EPO), organised the webinar Intellectual Property Basics in the EU – Protecting Your Investments, held on 15 September 2026 with the support of the EU–Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation. The webinar introduced Japanese businesses to the European intellectual property landscape and highlighted how the EU’s trade mark, design and patent systems can support investment, innovation and business expansion across the Single Market.
During the session, experts from the EUIPO and the EPO provided an overview of the key intellectual property rights available in the European Union and explained how effective IP protection can help companies safeguard their brands, designs and technologies when entering the European market. Drawing on practical examples and experiences of Japanese businesses operating in Europe, the speakers demonstrated how timely IP protection can reduce market-entry risks, facilitate partnerships and technology transfer, and contribute to the long-term value and competitiveness of investments.
