EUIPO delegation to meet with Georgian enforcement authorities

On 5 May 2023, the management teams of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) will meet with representatives of Georgian enforcement authorities. They will discuss the main project outcomes under the component dedicated to intellectual property (IP) rights enforcement.

The main activities from the past 3-and-a-half years of the project’s implementation will be analysed, particularly the guidelines on border, criminal and civil enforcement. The draft law amendments on border, criminal, civil and administrative enforcement will also be covered. Georgian authorities will discuss the results achieved through cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti – with support from the EUGIPP.

Moreover, the EUIPO delegation will present a possible future regional action to support Sakpatenti in IP. The project’s components will be examined, with particular attention to enforcement legislation and policies. Georgian authorities will share their needs with the project management team and express their interest in possible action areas.

The delegation will also visit the customs clearance zone in Tbilisi, Georgia. The objective is to better understand local procedures, assess the needs of Georgian authorities when enforcing IP rights and include these in the possible future IP action.
